Nagpur is the largest city in central India & the winter capital of the state of Maharashtra. It is a fast-growing metropolis and is the third most-populous city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune and also one of the country’s most industrialized cities. With a population of 2,405,421, Nagpur is the 13th most populous city and 13th largest urban agglomeration in India. According to a survey by ABP News-Ipsos, Nagpur has been identified as the best city in India by topping the liveability, greenery, public transport, and health care indices.
Nagpur is the seat of the annual winter session of the Maharashtra state assembly, “Vidhan Sabha”. Nagpur is a major commercial and political center of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. In addition, the city derives political importance from being the headquarters for the Hindu nationalist organisation RSS and an important location for the Dalit Buddhist movement.

It is famous for the Nagpur Orange and is known as the “Orange City” for being a major trade center of oranges cultivated in the region. The city was founded by the Gonds and later became a part of the Maratha Empire under the Bhonsles. The British East India Company took over Nagpur in the 19th century and made it the capital of the Central Provinces and Berar. After the first reorganisation of states, the city lost its status as the capital. Following the informal “Nagpur Pact” between political leaders, it was made the second capital of Maharashtra. Nagpur is also called the “Tiger Capital of India as it connects many tiger reserves in India to the world. It is among the important cities for the Information Technology sector in Maharashtra. Nagpur lies at the dead center of the country with the Zero Mile marker indicating the geographical center of India.

Shopping in Nagpur would be a delightful experience for the shoppers especially for the food lovers. The orange city, renowned for its world class oranges has numerous shops that sells different types of orange food products such as jam, jelly and fruit squash of best quality at reasonable rate. 1.Nan Kings –
A place to have the best Chinese cuisines in Nagpur. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Nagpur. It was established in 1973 and was named as Wonsun then. This little restaurant will come as a surprise package to you. The taste is awesome and the service is very good. The area is relatively small but interior is done pretty well. You will probably have to wait in a queue on weekends. The restaurants have also been issued “A” Grade Certificates by the Health Department of NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation).

2.Rhythm & Blues – Rhythm & Blues at Tuli International is modelled to look like an English pub and does a very good job at it. The food is the best part of a visit to RnB! Everything, from the Mughlai “Parluft Kabab” to the Indian “Butter Chicken” and the Continental “Pasta Alfredo” are absolutely amazing! The bar is well equipped with bartenders who capable of whipping up all sorts of exotic cocktails and shots. The orders are dished out pretty fast but if going on a weekend, service is slow and a few goof-ups are bound to happen. It is a small place and a good spot to watch matches and support your favorite team during IPL or Football matches on a big screen.

3.Fionaa – Fionaa or Fiona, means “white” or “fair” which perfectly describes the interiors here. White couches, white walls and white floor. There are two separate sections- for the Restaurant and the Lounge. The Restaurant is quiet with soft instrumental music playing in the background and dim lighting, whereas the lounge is where the party people go. Fionaa is among the few places in Nagpur that serves well even on weekends. The staff is polite and the food is served without a lot of waiting time.

4.Barbeque – “Ordinary ambience, Extra Ordinary Taste”. This establishment is nearly 15-20 years old. But the thing that hasn’t changed over the years is the quality taste. They serve super best food and you need not be a gourmet to say that. The place is small, but how does that matter to a food lover? It also takes care of your packet. The semi open kitchen and the very attentive staff ensures good quality food is served with minimal fuss and quickly which makes it heavily crowded on weekends. If you are Hard core non vegetarian and only taste is your priority, then this is a DO-NOT-MISS place for you.

Air:

Nagpur’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) is the busiest in India, with more than 300 flights flying over the city every day in 2004. In October 2005, Nagpur’s Sonegaon Airport was declared an international airport and was renamed Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.Nagpur is well connected by daily direct flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Indore, Ahmedabad, Goa, Jaipur, Kochi, Nanded, Aurangabad, Raipur operated by Air India, Jet Airways, JetLite, IndiGo, GoAir, SpiceJet. Air Arabia operates a 4 times a week to and fro flight between Nagpur and Sharjah.

Rail:

A total of 160 trains stop at Nagpur. These include passenger, express, mail, Duronto, rajdhani, garib rath trains. Of these 65 are daily trains and 26 terminate/originate from Nagpur. Almost 1.5 lakh passengers board/leave Nagpur Railway Station daily.
The city is the Divisional Head Quarters for the Central Railway and South East Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways. Nagpur is a city with two divisional headquarters, a rare distinction it shares with Lucknow, which has headquarters for two different divisions in Northern Railway zone and North Eastern Railway zone.
Nagpur Metro Rail:
The Nagpur Metro Rail project is announced by the state government of Maharashtra for the city with the expenses of 4,400 Cr and 3,800 Cr Rupees for its two phases of 25 km (from Sitabuldi to MIHAN and Butibori via Airport) and 20 km (Sitabuldi to Automotive Square in Kamptee) respectively.

Road:

Nagpur is a major junction for roadways as India’s two major national highways, Kanyakumari-Varanasi (NH 7) and Hajira-Kolkata (NH-6), passing through the city.[77] One more highway number 69 connect Nagpur to Obaidullaganj near Bhopal. Nagpur is at the junction of two Asian Highways namely AH43 Agra to Matara, Sri Lanka and AH46 connecting Kharagpur, India to Dhule, India.
